Now Hiring For Community Engagement Provider in Tacoma, WA.

Smith Habilitation Services provides community-based and individual support to those with developmental disabilities. We teach a range of life skills which enhance an individual’s ability to achieve maximum self-efficiency and empowerment. We provide Specialized Habilitation and Staff/Family Consultation. We strive to provide services that adapt to the uniqueness of every individual.

 

Smith Habilitation Services is now hiring for a Life Skills Specialist for $40/hour. 

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

As a Life Skills Specialist, you will provide Life Skills services or/and Staff/Family Consultation services.

 

Life Skills must promote inclusion in the community and be individualized to the client participant. Supports shall be provided with the intent of reaching a habilitative goal identified in the PCSP and in compliance with the Specialized Habilitation Policy.

 

Staff and Family Consultation Services are directed to a client’s family or direct service providers to meet the client’s specific needs.

 

Requirements:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s, Masters, or Doctoral degree in the field of psychology, sociology, social work, education, child development, gerontology, recreational therapy, nursing, or other related field. Or you can be in a university internship program for psychology, sociology, social work, education, child development, gerontology, recreational therapy, or nursing and be supervised by the university's internship program. A life Skills Coach certification is also approved.

  • Minimum of 2 years or more working and teaching life skills to adults with developmental disabilities.

  • Have experience teaching caregiver’s skills to help their client/child. This includes behavioral challenges, coping skills for in and out of the home, self-advocating skills, and other skills or methods that are needed.

  • Be able to push a client in a wheelchair. Accommodations can be made if needed.

  • Must be able to travel to at least two different locations a day to provide services.

 

Wage & Benefit:

Habilitation Specialist

  • $40/hour

Community Engagement Provider 

 

We at Smith Habilitation Services are dedicated to people with disabilities make  meaningful connections in the community. Our goal is to make each outing something the client is interested in and looks forward to.  

 

What a Community Engagement provider does:

  • Meet one-on-one and talk to the client about your PCSP and your goals engaging with the community.

  • Help the client connect with community resources based on their needs and interests.

  • Help the client create friendships and relationships with community members.

  • Help the client attend the community events and go to activities in your budget. 

  • Will take shuttle with the client to community events.

  • You will be driving to the client's facility and meeting them there for the shuttle. You may do some activities at the facility but most of the time it is going out in the community.

  • You may need to push the client in a wheelchair. 

  • You will have to collaborate with the client’s facility to make sure they can attend the activities.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Experience working with people who have disabilities.

  • Be willing to ride a shuttle with the client.

  • Be willing to push a client if needed in the wheelchair.

 

Positions Open:

One position in Tacoma WA, one in Bremerton, WA area and one position in Olympia WA.

 

Pay:

$22/hr

20-30 hours per week.
